- "Floral wreaths and garlands known as lei (Hawaii) are ubiquitous in Polynesia as both ornamental attire and gifts representative of affection or respect. Worn by men and women around the neck or around the head and commonly fashioned of flowers, leaves, vines and plant fiber."
Jason Villegas's work expresses human desire through naive representations of man, machine, microbiology, cosmology and merchandise. He subverts fashion logos, animals, nudes and weaponry to create humorous and absurd engagements. Reconstructed clothing, cardboard, found objects and fragments from our throw away society meld to create site-specific configurations, and wearable art.
